ABOUT US

Papa'a Palaoa means Slice of Bread.  Our logo has a phrase "Ma'nu'nu wale ka ma'ona maika'i" which means "Pleasently satisfied with good food".

Papa'a Palaoa Bakery started out on a cold and drizzly Christmas Eve morning in 2006 at the Volcano Farmers' Market.  We arrived in the dark and cold with 12 loaves of bread.  We sold 7 if those loaves that morning.  We went back again the next week and sold more.  We have returned to that market every Sunday morning since.

In March of 2014, after a long search for the perfect space, we opened our bakery and storefront at 187 Kilauea Avenue in downtown Hilo.  Open everyday at 7 a.m., we have fresh bread, scones, muffins and cookies.  We have increased the quantitiy and variety of our offerings and are continually striving to make new and yummy breads.
Passing our bakery, customers are drawn into the bakery by the aromatic smells of cinnamon, fresh bread and wonderful baked goods.  When they enter, they are greeted by a homey decor and friendly staff, making them feel like they have just stepped into a friend's kitchen.  We pride ourselves on baking with fresh, quality ingredients and recepies we have tested and perfected.  We use locally sourced ingredients as much as possible.

As"Hilo's village bakery", we are a production by demand bakery.  This means that we handcraft small batches of bread and other baked goods on a daily basis, and encourage our customers to call ahead and request or reserve their favorite things so we can include them in the production schedule.  Also, call ahead  for large and special orders.  Click here for our  menu of available items.
